OMA wins a competition to create a new residential in Kuwait

OMA was selected as the winning team in a competition organized by the Wafra Real Estate Company to design a residential building on Kuwait City’s waterfront. The tower consists of five residential blocks creating a stepped configuration that “maximizes occupancy on the lower floors and optimizes views along the vertical axis of the building”. As the project is located in the Hessa Al Mubarak District along Kuwait City’s waterfront, it offers its tenants penthouses and other different apartment typologies with views on the waterfront and the city.
The Wafra tower is designed as a stepped structure with an exposed backbone that is also a pivot that rotates the blocks. The stepped shape offers terraces that create recreational areas, swimming pools, and dewaniyas. The twisted movement of the blocks is highlighted on the facade through a rectangular grid.
Construction of the residential tower is expected to start at the end of 2020 and will be OMA’s first venture in Kuwait.
