The IAA Professor Nikos Fintikakis represented the IAA in UNECE’s workshop “Inter-regional workshop on electrification of urban mobility – Challenges and opportunities for transport, energy and spatial planning”

The IAA Professor Nikos Fintikakis participated as a IAA representative in the workshop “Inter-regional workshop on electrification of urban mobility – Challenges and opportunities for transport, energy and spatial planning” which was organized by UNECE. The event was held in conjunction with the WP.5 thirty-fifth annual session, in Geneva, at the Palais des Nations on 5 September 2022. The workshop took place both in-person as well as virtually.
At UNECE, the workshop was co-organized by the Sustainable Transport Division, the Sustainable Energy Division and the Housing and Land Management Section. The workshop, gathered interested stakeholders, including city and urban transport authorities, grid managers as well as spatial planners, Ministry of Transport/ Mobility experts, NGOs, and academia from around the world, is supported by the five United Nations regional commissions (ECE, ESCAP, ESCWA, ECA and ECLAC).
In his intervention during the meeting, arch. Fintikakis referred to the important world wide role of the IAA and the need of innovative Archirectural-structural changes in cities design and in the peri urban environment towards polycentric cities in the scope to achieve the maximum reduction of the energy consumption especially in mobility. He referred also to the crucial meaning of Plato’s (REPUBLIC) allegory of the cave , in conjunction with the four Aristotle’s elements and qualities in POLIS Environment.
