Clément Blanchet
As the founder and lead principal of Clément Blanchet Architecture (CBA), based in Paris, Clément brings nearly 25 years of experience in the built environment. Clément studied architecture at the AA School of Architecture in London, the Chulalongkorn Mahawitthayalai School of Architecture in Bangkok, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He graduated with honors from the Versailles School of Architecture. Also, Clément has been appointed as the Chief Architect for the municipality of Annecy since 2017.
He went on to develop his craft in 2004 with OMA for a tenure spanning 10 years of collaboration with Rem Koolhaas and then, serving as director, spearheading their French division to great success. Most notably, they have been involved in the construction of the Serpentine Gallery in London (2006) and the design and construction of the Caen Library (2017). They have also designed and developed award-winning projects, including the Palais des Congrès et des Expositions de Toulouse (2019) and the Ecole d’Ingénieurs de Centrale (2018). Their work includes master plans for Saclay and Bordeaux, and they are currently collaborating on the Simone Weil Bridge over the Garonne River in Bordeaux (2024).
Clément is now at the helm of his own practice, executing the vision he created during his architectural journey around the globe. International experience is evident in his studio, Clément Blanchet Architecture’s diverse portfolio ranges from participating in competitions across the USA, Asia, and Europe to designing significant projects such as a master plan and hotel complex in Tbilisi, Georgia, and a new urban development in Shenzhen, China. In France, the studio has concentrated on educational projects, securing victories in several competitions, including the Campus de l’Innovation in Antony and the Centre de Recherche et Développement Carrefour, both in 2017. More recently, the studio won an international competition to design a 1,500-seat auditorium for the Grand Paris project. Additionally, in June 2019, CBA was awarded the contract to construct the new 15,000-seat Bauer Stadium in Saint Ouen, which is currently under construction.
He has also nurtured the next generation of architects through his various teaching endeavors. In addition to running his practice and teaching. He has served as a guest critic at architecture schools across France, England, Germany, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. Since 2014, he has been a faculty member at Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning in Michigan, USA.
