THE SOLARIA AT THE RAWDHAT ABU DHABI

Engaged to design a modernist residential building, the firm created a concept that departs from the conventional repetition of dwelling units expressed above and adjacent to one another in replicate, static format. Instead, the design expresses a vertical emphasis and a composition that generates a dynamic quality rarely found in buildings of this type. The high-tech photovoltaic glass curtain wall substantially reduces heat absorption on east, west and south exposures while at the same time providing a high degree of visual transparency to the exterior in addition to generating electric power. Horizontal curtain wall elements create a subtle screen-like texture, adding both interest and identity to the façade.
